Guidance may be the ego's most fertile area for fostering doubt and confusion, guilt and fear. First of all, I am certain that if you work daily with the sequential lessons from the Workbook of ACIM, whatever blocks you have to experiencing Holy Spirit's guidance will disappear. Just the fact that you are working with this material is proof that you
are being Guided whether you are aware of it or not.
As I began working with ACIM, which includes doing a lesson a day from the Workbook, my life seemed to get 'crisper' and less unconscious, less vague. I would notice a fresh thought waiting to be noticed, waiting for me to listen. It was obviously not an old rehashed thought, but something said in a new way, perhaps a new perspective. With a sense of excitement, I began acting on those thoughts to discover their validity. How else can you ever know for sure?

This world of time-space was made by the ego. It is the result of the desire to possess, a construct of possession. Possession is a synonym for the ego. All ego concepts rest on the assumption of possession. You believe in the body as a possession. You have identified yourself with the body and therefore see yourself as temporary and transitory. The world of time-space is an impossible situation.
The linear time-space cosmos is an illusion, a game. Though the ego projects a world which seems to be the game, it is not. The game is in the mind. Economics, sexuality, pleasure and suffering are therefore all in the mind. The game cannot be won or lost. You can only free yourself of it by forgiving it or observing it in a beneficent way.

I want true happiness; I want the peace of God. But my false perception rigorously sustains my false identity as a vulnerable person in the world. And I remain trapped until I learn two things:
1) The truth that I am the Son of God, currently preferring to dream. This begins as an intellectual understanding, but right off it gives me a goal: to awaken. (Metaphysics of the Text)

During the dictation of the Course, Jesus told Helen and Bill, “You actually have to study the notes. It’s not like osmosis. I am giving it to you, but you must study the notes.” For me it was the same. Study the Text and then do the Workbook. The Workbook has very explicit daily instructions on what to do, how to do it and how long to do it. The Course also has the Teacher’s Manual so that you can fine tune your learning and listening instrument to really hear the Holy Spirit’s voice. For those who feel the Course is their path, I just say, “Hang in there with the Text, Workbook and Manual.”
Before I was hearing the Holy Spirit clearly, I was intuiting the Holy Spirit. I was feeling intuitions and impulses and promptings that felt very wonderful. I was like I had a feather in my heart chamber and there was tickling in my heart, the very core of my being. And I went, “Wow, this is not an intellectual experience; this is spectacular. I feel so good and the tickle is guiding me.” So initially, it was follow the tickle. It got me into actually being able to hear the voice.

One with God

During my morning meditation I had the experience of being one with God.
This is what I recall: after some initial settling in, I came to focus on the idea: “I am His holy Sinlessness Itself.” Since this is the truth, and there is no sin, it is impossible for me to have separated from God. Therefore, right now, I am still one with God and all of creation. Everything then shifted and brightened. I felt completely wonderful, joyful, and relaxed; my mind was alert and active throughout. Mostly I experienced the oneness of my Self and God and all of creation. I noticed that God had no form. I easily accepted this experience of at-one-ment. I was completely content. I felt an impulse to share the experience and blessed the people who came to mind. I had the impression of vertical white light coming down; it was distinctly different from experiences of light coming through closed eyelids. I didn’t want it to end, but eventually I had the sensation of being gradually lowered into my body again.
Trust and Letting Go
A meditation experience

I began my morning meditation as I often do: getting comfortable, then just sitting and letting my recent thoughts spin out, then remembering what I am about; I am God’s Son, complete and healed and whole. I reviewed some of God’s Thoughts: God’s Will for me is perfect happiness, God’s Will is wholly without opposite, God is but Love, and therefore so am I, I feel the Love of God within me now, God is the Love in which I forgive.
Then I gave this Holy Instant to God and let go of my thoughts. I completely stopped thinking and just watched. Thoughts and images seemed to float by without being connected. If I sensed a thought train beginning to form, which to me was noticeable as a certain heaviness beginning, I simply made a slight shift to watching something else. I enjoyed this for what seemed like a pretty long time. It occurred to me for a second that this was what I had always been afraid of—losing control, but here I was doing it completely without fear because I knew that all there was was the Mind of God and that He loved me so much He’d keep me absolutely safe.

Who Says Words With My Mouth?
All day I think about it, then at night I say it.
Where did I come from, and what am I supposed to be doing?
I have no idea.
My soul is from elsewhere, I'm sure of that,
and I intend to end up there.
This drunkenness began in some other tavern.
When I get back around to that place,
I'll be completely sober. Meanwhile,
I'm like a bird from another continent, sitting in this aviary.
The day is coming when I fly off,
but who is it now in my ear who hears my voice?
Who says words with my mouth?
Who looks out with my eyes? What is the soul?
I cannot stop asking.
If I could taste one sip of an answer,
I could break out of this prison for drunks.
I didn't come here of my own accord, and I can't leave that way.
Whoever brought me here will have to take me home.
This poetry, I never know what I'm going to say.
I don't plan it.

Right or Happy

While lack does not exist in the creation of God, it is very apparent in what you have made. It is, in fact, the essential difference between them. Lack implies that you would be better off in a state somehow different from the one you are in. Until the "separation," which is the meaning of the "fall," nothing was lacking. There were no needs at all. Needs arise only when you deprive yourself. You act according to the particular order of needs you establish. This, in turn, depends on your perception of what you are. A sense of separation from God is the only lack you really need correct. T-1.VI
"Self-esteem" in ego terms means nothing more than that the ego has deluded itself into accepting its reality. Appetites are "getting" mechanisms, representing the ego's need to confirm itself. The ego tries to satisfy itself through the body. T-4.II The body seeks in many ways to prove it is autonomous and real. It works to get paper strips, doing senseless things, and tosses them away for senseless things it does not need and does not even want. The "hero" of this dream will never change, nor will its purpose. T-27.VIII Power, fame, money, physical pleasure; who is the "hero" to whom all these things belong? Could they mean anything except to a body? By seeking after such things the mind associates itself with the body, obscuring its Identity and losing sight of what it really is. M-13
